MANHATTAN, KAN. – Local renters union Renters Together MHK claims victory in stopping gentrification in the Manhattan area, successfully stopping the Anderson Village Project as proposed by Elsey Partners.

In an email sent to Renters Together MHK, Chris Elsey stated that they were “not moving forward with the development as the city staff doesn't support it.” By using public pressure, through social media as well as local media, Renters Together MHK was able to create the political will to fight against the Anderson Village project.

Renters Together MHK will continue to put together a Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) with coalition partners to thwart more unaffordable and unsustainable housing in the near future.

Renters Together MHK is a renters union, dedicated to the belief that everyone deserves safe and affordable housing, regardless of income. The organization currently meets every Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Ave. Renters Together MHK works with Common Table to provide a meal at 6:00PM, preceding the meeting that starts at 7:00PM.
